STATEWIDE INDEPENDENT LIVING COUNCIL

EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEETING

November 4, 2009   12:00 PM – 2:00 PM

Members Present:  Rick Costa, Secretary; Liz Graves, Chairperson; Barbara Rozul, Treasurer; Heidi Showstead, 2nd Vice Chair; Mary Wambach, LDA Co-Chair.

Staff Present: Camille Pansa, Executive Director; Lisel Rockwood, Program Assistant.

Interpreter: Dona Lombardi.

 

1.     Minutes of September 2 and October 7, 2009: previously sent.  A motion was made by Heidi Showstead and seconded by Barbara Rozul to accept the minutes as written. Vote passed unanimously.

2.     Review December 2009 calendar: calendar attached.  The quarterly Council meeting is on the 11th, snow date is the 18th. Due to the holidays, the LDA will meet a week earlier on the 14th and the date for the Finance meeting will be decided at their November meeting. All other meetings are on their scheduled date and time.               

3.     Educational presentation for December quarterly meeting:  Several options were discussed: Operation Stand Down, RI Disability Vote Project (RIDVP), Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (CDHH), and Craig Stenning, Mental Health, Retardation, and Hospitals (MHRH). Mary Wambach will contact Craig Stenning (and Gary Alexander, DHS) to see if they are available. If not, CDHH will be contacted.

4.     Date due December quarterly reports: Reports are due December 2nd.    

5.     Audit FY 2009: The auditor will be at the office on November 20th, 23rd, and 30th. Findings will be presented at the January Finance meeting.

6.     Recruitment/ServeRI ad: Camille Pansa stated that recruiting activity has been good, despite no responses from the first ad in the Providence Sunday Journal, ServeRI volunteer section. She has spoken to six new potential Council members. Another ad will run at the end of the month. Mary


     Wambach and Heidi Showstead also offered ideas and names of other                 possible candidates.

7.     704 Report/State Plan meetings: Final figures from the Centers are still needed. Camille Pansa reported that she received an email from RSA stating there were no 704 reporting changes this year, but did mention frequently made mistakes which seemed to conflict with the original instructions. She has written to RSA for clarification. State Plan meetings will resume in January.

8.     PARI dinner Oct.15: Mary Wambach and Liz Graves attended.

9.     Initiatives for 2010: Mary Wambach presented a list of initiatives recommended by the LDA committee. She also stated the committee will remain vigilant about all options discussed as well as being responsive to new issues as they arise.

Ø  Disability History Week Bill & Curriculum

Ø  RIVER

Ø  Global Waiver

          Workshop ideas included Legislative Education, Disability Symposium, and               Mental Health Education.

13.Leadership Development and Advocacy Committee Report: previously         sent.        

      14.Old Business/New Business/Incoming Mail:  Liz Graves will bring                         RISILC brochures to the Woonsocket Health Center for Native Americans.

            Mary Wambach will represent the RISILC at the State Rehabilitation                          Council (SRC).
